Are Patrick and Art bisexual? The Italian filmmaker famously made the 2017 Best Picture nominee Call Me By Your Name, which follows the romance between a 17-year-old (Timothée Chalamet) and a graduate student (Armie Hammer) in Northern Italy, but he has frequently explored queer sexualities throughout his career. 

For example, Guadagnino’s last movie, the 2022 film Bones and All, was touted as a cannibalism movie with a deeper metaphor the LGBTQ+ community can sink their teeth further into.

The catch is that Art has to play against his former best friend and Tashi's ex love interest Patrick (Josh O'Connor).

To make things even more dramatic, all the teasers for Challengers have leant heavily into the concept that there is sexual tension between Art, Tashi and Patrick but how do the characters actually identify?

Both simply assume Tashi will choose whomever she wants and seem content enough with the same.

Nevertheless, once Tashi arrives at their hotel room that night, she throws a curveball at the boys and kisses both of them.

When O’Connor was asked about whether the movie features a queer storyline, he shared his thoughts on one our most highly-anticipated of the 2024 movies.

Are Patrick And Art Bisexual In Challengers? So, I don’t know if there’s a clear-cut answer to that but I think that they’re all completely tied, they’re all in, they’re all tied to each other.

Challengers is about longtime best friends and tennis players Patrick and Art who get their lives turned upside down when they meet tennis prodigy Tashi.

Through a non-linear narrative, the film follows Art Donaldson and Patrick Zweig, two childhood friends who take on the world of professional tennis together. It was fairly organic. Speaking with Vanity Fair, Josh explained that director Luca Guadagnino was very intentional with how the kiss panned out.

He said: "Luca had a very clear idea of what happens on the bed.

Furthermore, Patrick seems much more open to his possible bisexuality, allowing himself to explore his attraction toward both men and women on dating apps. Therefore, even the idea of Patrick and Art sharing a romantic past is introduced as a question. Consequently, the trio finds themselves hurled into years of drama that culminate in one final match between Art and Patrick.

While Tashi’s relationships with both Art and Patrick remain at the narrative center, a consistent live-wire tension persists between the two men.
