You often see gym bunnies at the beach. It felt safer to be alone than to risk being hurt again.
Sound familiar?
The Psychology Behind the Lone Wolf Gay Man
Many gay men carry deep attachment wounds that start in childhood and are reinforced by shame and rejection throughout life.
Growing up in a world that teaches us that being gay is somehow “wrong” or “disgusting” creates a fracture in our authentic self and ultimately our sense of belonging.
That’s attachment trauma, the pain of being disconnected from love and acceptance when we needed it most.
Twinks are usually anywhere from 18 to mid-20s, give or take.
Note that the term “daddy” is not used here. We start belonging again, not because we’ve changed, but because we’ve finally stopped hiding.
Let the Lone Wolf Rejoin the Pack
Being a lone wolf served a purpose.
Let’s Talk Dirty to The Animals
Are you a jock, otter, bear, cub, or wolf?
I became what I call the lone wolf gay man. Twinks are not.
The Jocks
For gay men, jocks are almost always muscular with low body fat and attractive. Somewhere along the way, I started to believe that “different” meant “wrong”.
At an early age, I learned to hide the parts of me that felt too much: too emotional, too gentle, too expressive, too sensitive, too gay.
The Pups
A pup typically is a gay male who is fairly young in age, usually late teens to early 20s, give or take.
Wolves have a history in a variety of cultures that is as rich and complex and storied as our queer histories, so the meeting of the two just feels right.
This anthology contains short stories, essays, poetry, illustrations and comics all themed on lgbtq wolves. Wolves, bears, chubs and otters can technically be daddies. For gays, to be called a jock is a compliment.
One does not need to be a tweaker however to tweak. We convince ourselves that we prefer solitude, but underneath, there’s often deep loneliness and a quiet grief for the connection we never got to have, with family, friends, or lovers.
Many gay men stay in this pattern for years, believing it’s just their personality. It is entirely possible that your group does not appear.
Wolves in space and beyond.
Otters characteristically are not super built but can be athletic. We want to be seen, but we fear being seen.
