At the same time, Nas shared a heartwarming message to his younger self on social media. I’m also — I feel like opening the doors for more people. You know, we may date again, I’m sure.
Calling Ariza “the best person I have ever dated” and that the two were “still on very good terms,” he explained why the two decided to part ways, saying,
I love him; he is amazing.
He continues to flaunt his freedom, as he’s made it clear time and time again — he’s not here for your hate, he’s here to live his truth.
The song also highlights Nas X’s journey through the music industry. In fact, he didn’t plan on coming out for quite a few reasons, including the fact that he had been taught from a young age that homosexuality “is never going to be O.K.”
He also feared that he would lose fans because of it, as he shared with Time.
It was around this time that he adopted his stage name, Lil Nas X. “Nas” drew on the Twitter account he ran while a devoted fan of Nicki Minaj and “X,” the Roman numeral for 10, represented the number of years he thought it would take to find fame. The eight-track collection arrived in March 2025 with no advanced fanfare.
His upcoming sophomore album Dreamboy is set to arrive later this year.
His other previous relationships currently remain unknown to the public eye.
During the 2021 BET Awards, Hill and Ariza famously locked lips with each other onstage, with fans speculating that they were in a romantic relationship. The accompanying music video drew on visuals linked to the Christian faith and the idea that being gay meant being denied salvation.
Still, he stood by his decision. The rapper will be dropping HOTBOX on March 14, promising more chaos and more unapologetic queer joy. In May 2021, Nas performed “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and the more personal “Sun Goes Down” on Saturday Night Live. but the truth is, i am. It’s a celebration of who he is and the things that bring him happiness — from cuddling with his cats to loving boys with a particular scent.
But it’s not just a love letter to himself.
That January, he shared on X (formerly Twitter), “would y’all be mad at me if i thought i was a little bisexual.” However, in a documentary later that year about the Grammy winner, he refers to himself as gay. As he got older, he witnessed the bullying and homophobia people who came out had to deal with and decided he would always stay in the closet.
The next day, he further cemented this thought with a follow-up tweet that read, “that was my last time coming out the closet i promise”.
But that was, of course, not really the case as, almost eleven months later, he once again took to his X handle on November 29, 2023, to write,
not gonna lie i wanted to reinvent myself for this next era but sadly im still gay
What’s worth noting is that, while he came out as a part of the LGBTQ+ community, Hill originally only suggested that he’s gay, i.e., he didn’t actually say the word ‘gay’ while coming out.
His main focus was online life as a superfan of Nicki Minaj. To his father’s dismay, he decided to drop out of school to pursue a career as a musician.
Songs and Album
After leaving college, Nas lived with his sister while sharing his music online. With his new single DREAMBOY, the Atlanta rapper serves up a track that’s as chaotic as it is catchy, full of the boldness and joy that’s made him a cultural icon.
I don’t want anything that’s — not to be a whore or anything, but I don’t want anything that’s like, ‘I need your time right now.’ Sometimes, when you get sad or whatnot, you just want to go with somebody and cuddle and kiss and hug. His father was a gospel singer, and Nas had to attend church. As he said, “When the time comes [for love], I’m not going to force it or anything.
But the journey of getting there and meeting with the consequences wasn’t the easiest for him.
