It’s amazing to look at this show, compare it to the queer shows of 20 or even just 10 years ago, and realize how far we have come. Season 3 of Master of None shows Denise and her wife, Alicia (Naomi Ackle), embarking on their new marriage as a Black, lesbian couple.

‘Dear White People’
Lionel (DeRon Horton) became a breath of fresh air for some Dear White People fans. Knowing that it exists. It was in turns both funny and poignant, delving into topics that aren’t often depicted in mainstream media, such as open relationships, the impact of social media and dating apps on LGBTQ relationships, and aging in the gay community.
We never get to see Black men be vulnerable. Since its inception, this franchise has been forward-thinking and raw in its depiction of challenges teens face, including coming out, bullying, and other issues related to LGBTQ life. Lead character Patrick (Jonathan Groff) was entirely human and relatable, and we found ourselves rooting for him even in the stickiest of situations (like when he was sleeping with his boss).
“To know that Anthony is inspiring that queer person that was inside of me at 16, 17, who wasn't comfortable going out and being their true self—it’s just a beautiful thing.”
It’s also beautiful to see a fem presenting Black queer man being loved openly as we see with Anthony and his on-screen love interest Raymond (Ashton Harris).
“It’s so important to show people like Anthony being loved out loud and loved without conditions.
It’s all welcomed praise for a show that crowdsourced and surpassed its goal to finish shooting the first season and filmed a number of scenes in Walker and Dawson’s shared New York City apartment.
“When we started, we didn't have a following. I literally sent the [Instagram] Live to Ellis. Ultimately, Annalise accepted being bisexual in the series finale when she publicly came out in court.

In Master of None, Dev’s (Aziz Ansari) best friend, Denise (Lena Waithe), seemingly doesn’t have a problem sharing her sexuality with anyone.
Bryant believes they absolutely should.
“Regardless of the fact that it's queer or not, this is Black work,” he says.
“I have hope that it will be positively received. Although P-Valley star J.Alphonse said Lil Murda is “trying to figure out” his sexual orientation, he became smitten with Uncle Clifford in Season 1.
